Cream facades, zinc roofs, paved street and flowers; pass through the arch and, like Alice through the Looking Glass, you’ll come out on the other side of the mirror in the picturesque Village Royal.
Between Madeleine and the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré
This delightful shopping arcade was renovated in 1992 to accommodate Parisian luxury while maintaining the place’s village atmosphere and history, which goes way back. In the 17th century this area was largely undeveloped private land, on the edge of which stood a military barracks built for the prestigious Royal Guard of King Louis XIII, better known as the Musketeers. The aristocracy of the 18th century, tired of the dirty and crowded city, built their mansions here and the Aguesseau market and its butchers and fishmongers followed.
From Dior to the colour service
Those market stalls of yesteryear have now been replaced by luxury brands such as Dior, Chanel, Louis-Édouard Lejeune jewellery, Emling shoes and Bell & Ross watches. There’s also a hair colour service and, for a limited time, the urban art installation called the Umbrella Sky Project is filling the sky with colourful umbrellas.
