From October 19th to February 10th, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Museum of Decorative Arts) traces the particularly rich and varied career of the influential Italian designer and architect Gio Ponti through the exhibition ‘Tutto Ponti, Gio Ponti Archi-designer’.
"From the spoon to the city"
This expression attributed to the Italian architect Ernesto Nathan Rogers applies particularly well to the description of the work of Ponti which, between the early 1920s and the end of the 1970s, placed its clean lines in the service of designing an eclectic range of items, including coffee makers (he is the creator of the famous Cornuta), chairs (the legendary Superleggera, 1957), buildings (Pirelli Tower, Milan) and even a cathedral (Taranto, 1970).
A creative effervescence
More than 400 pieces, including furniture, tableware, metalwork, lighting and other interior fittings, architectural models, photos, drawings and more are presented chronologically to highlight the entirety of the subject’s long career. Some of these items have never before been seen in public. Gio’s interest in glassware, ceramics and goldsmithing is also highlighted. You must not miss this eye-opening exhibition featuring the dynamic inventiveness of a passionate creator whose joyful and often highly personal work is now much sought-after.
